How I work

I’m committed to taking care of myself, those around me, and the broader community and environment. I seek balance, regeneration and sustainability in my life and work.

I carefully manage my time and energy in order to dedicate myself with integrity, rigour and respect to various professional, academic and community engagements.

If you’re wondering what this means in terms of working with me, please read on...

  • What matters most to you?

In all my work and interactions, I endeavour to stay true to these values that drive me:

    — Care, compassion and respect*

    — Learning and adaptation

    — Integrity, honesty and authenticity

    — Equity and justice

If at any time you find me falling short of living by these values, please let me know.

*This includes using inclusive language. My pronouns are: she/her.

  • When will you reply to my email?

If we haven’t been in touch before, please complete my contact form so my associate Jessie or I can respond appropriately.

If we are already in touch, I encourage you to contact my work email. I generally see and respond to these emails within 2-3 working days (quicker than those in my gmail and unimelb inboxes). I don’t usually respond immediately to requests.

I have adopted The Email Charter which means:
    — I avoid sending unnecessary emails.
    — I only check and send messages at times that suit me.
    — I encourage you to read, respond to or action my messages at a time that suits you.
    — My response may be brief and it’s OK if yours is too.

  • Can I DM you?

I’m happy to chat on Slack or LinkedIn (please introduce yourself if sending a connection request!) or by text for brief messages. I will ask to move the conversation to email if it’s a significant work matter or enquiry.

I use apps like Slack and Telegram for certain projects and communities, but intentionally do not always keep the app/channel open. It can sometimes take a few days for me to notice messages. I prioritise messages from CoDesignCo members, especially in our Slack space.

If you have my phone number, please text me if it’s a brief message or phone for an urgent request, detailed update or more complicated conversation - preferably only during my office hours. If our call might need more than 10-15 minutes, let’s schedule it in advance.

  • When are you available?

I require advance notice to schedule meetings or other engagements. If you would like to meet or (re)schedule a coaching session, I may invite you to book in a time using Calendly.

I’m generally available for meetings in these ‘office hours’ (Australian Eastern Time):
    Monday 1.30pm - 5.30pm
    Tuesday 10.30am - 6.30pm
    Thursday 1.30pm - 6.30pm
    Friday 10am - 4pm

My availability can vary and be negotiable with advance notice.

I’m often booked up for work several months in advance. I love talking to potential new clients or training participants, but may ask for patience to schedule a meeting or respond to a request for quote, so that I can prioritise existing commitments first. If I’m not available immediately, I can let you know when I’m next able to take on new clients.

  • Where do you work?

I work across Australia and New Zealand, with occasional engagements and course participants from other parts of the world (including Asia, Europe and North America).

I acknowledge the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation as the traditional owners of the unceded land on which I work. With collaborations across Australia and Aotearoa, I pay my respects to Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and Māori Elders and ancestors.

I mainly work remotely and meet via Zoom or a phone call (good for reducing fatigue and environmental impact!). I’m occasionally available to meet in-person in Melbourne.

I love snail mail but may need a nudge to check my PO box! My postal address is: PO Box 2083, Belgrave, VIC 3160, Australia.

  • What do you charge?

I work independently (no salary or leave allowance!) and can only take on clients who can pay for my services or offer a value exchange.

You can find out how much each training program I offer publicly costs on the relevant page. I offer scholarships for First Nations practitioners and discounts for people from low income countries.

I charge clients $200-450/hour, with rates depending on the nature and value of the work, for a minimum engagement of $1000 + GST. I can provide a customised cost estimate on request.

I usually charge in AUD or NZD, and I can accept PayPal and credit card payments in other currencies. I have an ABN and IRD number, and pay tax in Australia on all income received. I also pay the rent by donating 1% of my income to local Aboriginal organisations, 1% to environmental causes, and volunteer my time for community and academic groups.
