How I work

I’m committed to taking care of myself, those around me, and the broader community and environment. I seek balance, regeneration and sustainability in my life and work.

I carefully manage my time and energy in order to dedicate myself with integrity, rigour and respect to various professional, academic and community engagements.

If you’re wondering what this means in terms of working with me, please read on...

  • What matters most to you?

In all my work and interactions, I endeavour to stay true to these values that drive me:

    — Care, compassion and respect*

    — Learning and adaptation

    — Integrity, honesty and authenticity

    — Equity and justice

If at any time you find me falling short of living by these values, please let me know.

*This includes using inclusive language. My pronouns are: she/her.

  • When will you reply to my email?

If we haven’t been in touch before, please complete my contact form so a team member or I can respond appropriately.

If we are already in touch, I encourage you to contact my work email. I generally read and respond to these emails within 2-3 working days.

I have adopted The Email Charter which means:
    — I avoid sending unnecessary emails.
    — I only check and send messages at times that suit me.
    — I encourage you to read, respond to or action my messages at a time that suits you.
    — My response may be brief and it’s OK if yours is too.

  • Can I DM you?

I use various messaging apps for specific projects and communities, but intentionally do not always keep the app/channel open. It can sometimes take a few days for me to notice messages in these places. I prioritise emails in my work inbox and Slack messages from current clients, collaborators and alumni members.

If we’re already connected, I’m happy to chat on Slack or LinkedIn (please remind me how we know each other if sending a connection request!) or by text for brief messages. I will ask to move the conversation to email if it’s a significant work matter or enquiry.

If you have my phone number, feel free to text a brief message or phone for an urgent request, detailed update or more complicated conversation —preferably during my office hours. If we may need more than 10 minutes, let’s schedule the call in advance.

  • When are you available?

I require advance notice to schedule meetings or other engagements. If you would like to meet or (re)schedule a coaching session, I may invite you to book in a time using Calendly.

I’m generally available for meetings in these ‘office hours’ (Australian Eastern Time):
    Monday 1.30pm - 5.30pm
    Tuesday 10.30am - 6.30pm
    Thursday 1.30pm - 6.30pm
    Friday 10am - 4pm

My availability can vary and be negotiable with advance notice.

I’m often booked up for work several months in advance. I love talking to potential new clients or training participants, but may ask for patience to schedule a meeting or respond to a request for quote, so that I can prioritise existing commitments first. If I’m not available immediately, I can let you know when I’m next able to take on new clients.

  • Where do you work?

I work across Australia and New Zealand, with occasional engagements and course participants from other parts of the world (including Asia, Europe and North America).

I acknowledge the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation as the traditional owners of the unceded land on which I work. With collaborations across Australia and Aotearoa, I pay my respects to Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and Māori Elders and ancestors.

I mainly work remotely and meet online. I like a phone call for reducing fatigue and environmental impact. I can meet in-person in Melbourne and travel for work, with advance notice.

I love snail mail but may need a nudge to check my PO box! My postal address is: PO Box 2083, Belgrave, VIC 3160, Australia.

  • What do you charge?

You can find out how much each training program I offer publicly costs on the relevant page and read our FAQ about payment options including scholarships. For other services, I can provide a customised cost estimate on request.

When pricing, I take into account the value offered, cost to deliver, and market comparisons. I value inclusion and diversity, and want to share my knowledge and practice as widely as possible.

I also need to make a profit from my work. Profit is both a measure of the value I provide (my unique blend of knowledge, insight and experience—as a practitioner, scholar, learning designer and facilitator) and the fuel to keep doing what I do. This includes being able to offer programs at all, as well as contributing to communities at no to low cost.

I usually charge in AUD or NZD, and I can accept PayPal and credit card payments in other currencies. I have an ABN and IRD number, and pay tax in Australia on all income received. I also pay the rent by donating 1% of my income to Aboriginal organisations and 1% to environmental causes.
